    Talk about a massive advantage for a company - to have a personal mentor and superhuman assistant, who can check the quality and accuracy of each staff member's work. It never gets tired, never sleeps - and never asks for an increase. Very impressive stuff from MS - such agility and speed from such a large company - it's years ahead of its competitors as far as enterprise development and across-the-board low-level AI product integration is concerned. Apple on the other hand is looking singularly unimpressive - even behind the times when it comes to its sluggish and reluctant development and integration of AI systems and tools into its products and operating environment. Actually, there is no integration into their products when you look closely at their current knee-jerk reactions to AI. This is their Achilles heal - they want to own the technology and copyright it and milk their customer base for all it's worth - but the rest of the world is already two years down the road and has a myriad of better options and tools.

    Also curious if there's an entirely on-prem scenario that could be supported, perhaps using one of the various Open Source vector databases [installed locally] and something like Phi-3 or Llama as a locally executing SLM. I have a high-profile scenario using on-prem SQL that could really use that kind of functionality but there is no option to connect to Azure.

    Are all the fields in the Azure AI Search index (productdataindex) created automatically, or do we need to manually create them ourselves? I assume that these fields are generated automatically when connecting Azure AI Search to our SQL Database data source.

      You can use an import wizard with Azure AI Search with your SQL Data but to get embeddings to be created correctly in this case I manually created the index, put in my field names to match the columns in the source table, and then when creating the index (indexer) I specified the index definition, the data source table from SQL, and the skillset with OpenAI to generate embeddings.

    The Teams meeting recap is unanimously seen as the best feature in my circle, by a mile. It's the one thing that's leaps and bounds more efficient than asking ChatGPT. I just wish it were a LOT more prominent. I mean big-red-warning-bar if I am not going to have Copilot available to ask questions on when this is all said and done, or in my calendar if a meeting is hosted elsewhere and I won't be able to refer back to it in this way. Most frustrating, by a mile, is Excel. So much potential there, but it won't even talk to you if your data isn't in a table. I need this tool to coach users into getting to the table stage to begin with. I want something to help beginners - experts are already asking GPT for formula-writing advice and doing comparatively fine that way.

    Nice overview but with regards to some of the guidance: I wouldn't recommend using Management Groups for this purpose, according to CAF / Azure Landing Zone guidance, they should be used primarily for assigning policies and RBAC at scale (part of your Cloud governance model). Instead, it would be better to assign (link) subscriptions with different billing profiles or invoice sections. In this way, you could have different hierarchies for policies and cost management.

    Hello! I’ve been pondering on the current state of AI and I believe it’s time we shift our focus from the sheer volume of knowledge an AI possesses to its intelligence quotient (IQ). Remember when Mistral 7B outperformed larger parameter models of its time? That was a breakthrough moment that demonstrated the potential of smaller, more intelligent models. Today, the best performing models boast around 72 billion parameters, but are we not simply creating “parrots with a huge database”? Our AIs have become vast repositories of information, but their ability to understand, analyze, and apply this knowledge in a meaningful way is still limited. They can repeat what they’ve been trained on, but struggle with novel situations or complex reasoning tasks. I propose a shift towards creating more intelligent AIs by increasing their attention span and context length. This would allow them to maintain a larger active working memory, enabling them to better understand and respond to complex inputs. Moreover, we should encourage our AIs to recursively ponder on their knowledge. This means having them revisit and reevaluate their conclusions, allowing them to correct errors and refine their understanding over time. By focusing on these aspects, we can create AIs that are not just knowledgeable, but truly intelligent. They would be capable of deep understanding, complex reasoning, and innovative problem-solving - traits that define true intelligence. Let’s strive to create not just bigger AIs, but better AIs. Let’s make our AIs not just knowledgeable, but truly intelligent. If you have the skills to enginner an AI (not just feed them data) or you work in an AI company, I might help. Or, even better, the whole community could.

    on the subject of cooling and power requirements, i've been saying for ages that the "waste heat" is only waste if you don't use it. most electricity generators work by using heat to drive turbines. instead of using burning fuel or nuclear reactions to create heat, we should use the heat generated by compute as the source for generating electricity. pump and compress the heat from the cooling fluid into a reservoir which a second heat exchanger uses to vaporise a second working fluid which drives the turbines turning generators that feed electricity back to the GPU clusters. recycle the power endlessly.

    • @jamieknight326
      @jamieknight326 22 дня назад

      The physics problem is around concentrating energy / heat into one spot. While the total heat energy is in the MW range, it’s distributed across millions of litres of fluid (water / air) which is lightly heated and can’t be concentrated into a single place. Thermodynamics doesn’t allow for addition of heat between working fluids. You can’t use 2 litres of 50c water to create 1 litre of 100c water. I’m a nutshell, we can take the distributed head and convert it into the high pressure high volume of steam needed to run an electricity turbine. The heat may be useful for an industrial process like drying cement. But that ends up being being uneconomical as power from the grid is much cheaper than recovered heat. I wish this process worked. It would be amazing, but the physics doesn’t work out. :(

    • @sceptic33
      @sceptic33 22 дня назад

      @@jamieknight326 people always say it can't be done. i'm not convinced. low grade heat is raised when compressed by a heat pump. using a multi stage setup where a chain of pumps uses the increased temp from the previous pump as the base to concentrate further, is see no reason why a final reservoir of compressed heat shouldn't be hot enough to drive a turbine and generate electricity. you can generate electricity with a sterling engine and a cup of tea. a data centre converting 100MW of electricity into 99.9MW of heat, should be able to provide 99.9MW of heat to a heat engine.
